Record Your DD-214
Kankakee County Recorder and Patriot Lori Gadbois recently designed and printed a brochure that is extremely helpful for all military veterans and our returning Armed Forces personnel and their families.
-
Recorder Gadbois says; “Many veterans, in the busy days after discharge, are not aware of how valuable their DD214 (discharge papers) really are or even how often they will need to present it when applying for any benefit. That is why I worked with other Recorders and our local Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) to produce a brochure that will assist our returning Military and Veterans. Recording your DD214 or separation papers will put this valuable document in a safe place. When you need various copies to apply for college, a loan or medical assistance you will always be asked for a copy of your DD214 which, once Recorded, we can make copies for you as needed. Finally, your records are always here and always safe. In 2004 Public Act 093-0468 was passed to protect the rights of veterans, meaning a recorded military discharge or DD214 is no longer public information and can only be accessed by the veteran or the local VAC. Your document and privacy is safe and secure.”
The local county Recorder offices throughout the State of Illinois offer this service free of charge as well as when certified or regular copies are requested.
Kankakee County Recorder Gadbois proudly works with the VAC, and Kankakee Counties Veterans Service Organizations, to get the word out about this service. A copy of this very informative brochure can be obtained at American Legion Posts, the Veterans Assistance Commission, any Home Star Bank within Kankakee County, the Finance Desk at Kankakee Community College and as well as at the County Recorder’s office at 189 East Court Street – Second Floor, Kankakee IL.
At Post 85 we believe that recording your DD214 is the best free insurance you can provide for your family, as nobody ever goes looking for their DD214 in “good times.”
Manteno Veterans Home: Public Hearing
OK folk’s this one is VERY IMPORTANT to a great many of our neighbors. The Advisory Board of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will conduct a Public Hearing at the Manteno Veterans Home on Saturday, December 10 at 2:30pm. The issue is to gauge (your) public sentiment on adjusting the $929 per month maintenance fee charged to the residents of the home. The Legion in Kankakee County has put together this Fact Sheet and Recommendation. Please READ and SHARE. We and our friends will be gathering at 1:30pm at the Home. Please join us. I’ll bet you can guess our sentiment.

Welcome Lonestar Steakhouse!

Please join me in welcoming the wonderful Patriots from Lone Star Steakhouse in Bradley to our Group. GM David Bates and crew are one of the most Veteran and Armed Forces friendly businesses around. Great food at a 10% Veteran and Armed Forces discount on food everyday, except on Mondays, when David kicks it to 20%, is not all. David also welcomes our returning Veterans and encourages them to stop in and apply for a job with his bunch. Way to go David. Please SHARE!
